An undocumented relationship
The National Rail Museum spans 11 acres and draws 35,000 visitors. MOLOG was asked to design an exhibition telling the story of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's connection to Indian Railways - a relationship historically profound yet largely undocumented.
Gaining attention across that much ground, among numerous other exhibits, required both technical and creative thinking.
- three-dimensional hexagonal structure
- 60 ftthree-dimensional hexagonal structure
- princely states mapped in Kalava thread
- 560+princely states mapped in Kalava thread
- visitors across an 11-acre site
- 35,000visitors across an 11-acre site
Visible from every angle
Working closely with the NRM team, we developed floor plans, layouts and 3D concepts for the displays and the overall showcase space, then went beyond the original scope: a 60-foot three-dimensional structure shaped like a hexagon, built in khadi fabric, with hanging banners and custom lighting that made it magnetic from every angle of the museum grounds.
“A reminder that the line between fragmentation and unity is sometimes as thin, and as strong, as a thread.”
A thread between fragmentation and unity
Inside the structure, the unification of more than 560 princely states was visualised through a single red thread - Kalava - connecting each state on a detailed map of India.
Sardar Patel gave India the mantra of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Indian Railways has spent its entire history fulfilling it. This exhibition was the story of both.
